You wouldn’t know it from the weather lately, but grilling season has officially arrived with Memorial Day weekend in Western New York. Despite the rainy and cooler weather, Memorial Day itself looks to be nice, and a little weather never stops a Western New Yorker from grilling. After all, Buffalo is the tailgating capital of the world. Rain or shine, warm or freezing, we will grill in anything.
With a long weekend approaching, many of you will be looking to grill, and many of you will be serving up hot dogs. They are affordable, easy, and delicious! Certainly, Buffalo has it’s favorite too in Sahlen’s Hot Dogs.
But with the economy in flux and food being more expensive than ever, will you be paying a lot more for those hot dogs this year? Who has the most affordable hot dogs?
Well, you’re in luck! We took it upon ourselves to look at some of the major grocery stores in the area and find the cheapest hotdogs, as well as the price of local dogs like Sahlen’s at these places. For this, we looked at the price per ounce versus just the total price. After all you’re probably not grilling for 1 this weekend and will be looking to buy in larger quantities.

Some places don’t list everything they have online, and prices are subject to change. Plus, sometimes going in-store versus finding it online can have a price difference, so keep that in mind when shopping.
The Cheapest Hot Dogs Right Now in Western New York
The Cheapest hot dog you can buy in WNY is from Walmart, which is the Bar S Fully Cooked Franks in a 12-oz package. They only cost $1.00, or $.08 per ounce
The cheapest locally made hot dog? That goes to The Market in the Square, which is selling the big pack of Sahlen’s for only $10.00 or $.23 per ounce.
