PORTLAND, Maine — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is proud to partner with the Portland Sea Dogs to host Mental Health Awareness Night at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field, during the Sea Dogs’ game against the Reading Fightin Phils at 6:00 PM.
This special evening is part of Mental Health Awareness Month and aims to elevate the importance of mental well-being, reduce stigma, and connect individuals with valuable resources and support. As one of the most highly attended games of the season—capped with a fireworks display—Anthem is taking the opportunity to reach thousands of fans with messages of hope, resilience, and support.
“At Anthem, we believe mental health is health,” said Denise McDonough, Plan President for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine. “We’re proud to work alongside the Sea Dogs and local organizations to show our community that it’s okay to talk about mental health, and there is help available—whether it’s through virtual care, peer support, or crisis services.”
Throughout the evening, fans will find resource tables hosted by trusted local organizations, including NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Maine Health and Human Services, Sweetser, and Simple Emotions. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions, gather information, and learn about local and virtual mental health support available in Maine.
“We are proud to partner with Anthem to highlight Mental Health Awareness,” stated Sea Dogs General Manager Jesse Scaglion. “This is an important issue that has affected many of our players, fans, and community members. This night is not just about raising awareness; it’s about creating a community where everyone feels supported and understood. It’s a reminder that mental health is as important as physical health, and together, we can break the stigma and foster a culture of empathy and care.”
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, nearly one in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year. Yet many do not seek help due to stigma or access barriers. Anthem is working to change that by expanding provider networks, lowering out-of-pocket costs, and making 24/7 virtual mental health care accessible to more individuals and families.
