A 2-year-old American bulldog died Friday after being left in a hot car outside Manassas Mall.
The dog’s owner, 28-year-old Malik Lee Dorsey-O’Bannion of no fixed address, has been charged with animal cruelty after police say he returned to his car after “a couple of hours” and found the dog unresponsive.
Dorsey-O’Bannion had six other dogs with him that day, and all were found in the mall with him when officers arrived, Carr said. She did not know why the dogs were in the mall or if they were with the suspect the whole time.
The other dogs were taken to the Prince William County Animal Services Center and did not appear to be injured, she said.
The high temperature in Manassas on Friday, May 16 was 88 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Dorsey-O’Bannion was arrested and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond with a pending court date. No booking photo was available.
