A local group is giving dogs a second chance

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -A group based out of Moab, Utah has been giving dogs in need a second chance. Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab held one of their adoption events at the Chow Down located in Grand Junction on May 18.

The group said they hold around 6 of these adoption events every month in the Grand Valley. All the dogs at the events come off the Native American reservations in the Four Corners region. This includes the Navajo Nation, which has about 500,000 stray animals. In a little over 7 years, the group has rescued at least 4,229 dogs.

“We’ve had dogs come in who had to have blood transfusions because they had so many ticks and they were so anemic. So to watch them come from that, or maybe they were hit by a car and we had to, you know, amputate a leg and just to watch them heal and grow to where they’re ready to be adopted and then get to see them go off to their forever home is really incredible,” said Ashley Park, the Events Coordinator with Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab.

The events also serve to educate and inform the community about the high number of dogs who need help. “One of the really big things I like to focus on is outreach. We are always looking for new volunteers, new fosters. There’s a lot of ways to help that aren’t adopting,” said Park.

These events are part of an ongoing effort. “I think you’ll find everyone who works with underdog is just so passionate about sharing why we do what we do and trying to again help those communities who don’t have access to veterinary care otherwise,” said Park.

There are other ways to help outside of going to the events. To learn more about that, click here.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
