NEED TO KNOW
- A mom’s child fell into dog poop at a poorly maintained birthday party hosted by a longtime friend
- The host offered minimal concern, and the mom felt judged by other guests for cleaning up her kids
- After receiving no acknowledgement or thanks for the gift or attending, the woman turned to Reddit to vent
A woman took to Reddit to vent after an incident at a birthday party left her questioning her actions and the state of her friendship.
For six years, she had maintained a bond with a friend who lives an hour away, attending each other’s children’s birthday parties without fail. “She’s always been a genuine, calm person who doesn’t talk bad about others. She has always showed up for me,” the woman wrote in her post.
However, things shifted during a recent party for her friend’s son. The host typically organizes celebrations at home, which the poster notes “is fine in theory,” but she often lacks preparation.
“Her house is often dirty. There are no activities or even toys for the kids, and overall it’s not a great experience,” she explained. Over time, fewer guests have attended these gatherings, which she believes is due to the unclean conditions.

The tipping point came at the latest event when the outdoor play area became a health hazard. “The only thing for the kids to do was play outside on a swing set, but the yard was covered in huge piles of dog poop,” she recounted.
The woman believes her pal’s large Cane Corso had been left unchecked, leaving the yard littered with waste. The situation escalated when the Redditor’s 3-year-old daughter fell into one of the piles, staining her pants.
“I told her to come over so I could clean her up,” the woman recalled, noting that she called her other child over to avoid further accidents.

Her attempt to manage the situation didn’t go unnoticed by other guests. “I calmly explained we had to stay inside and wash up,” she insisted, but this drew judgmental stares from her friend’s relatives. “It felt like they thought I was being rude,” she observed.
The tension heightened when she overheard whispering among her friend’s sisters that abruptly stopped as she walked by.
Despite feeling ostracized, she tried to maintain composure. Her friend eventually approached and asked if everything was okay, but the interaction felt dismissive.
“I explained my kids got dog poop on them, so I had to clean them up. She just said, ‘Yeah, sorry about that,’” the poster recalled. Afterward, she made an excuse to leave early, feeling disgusted by what she describes as a careless approach to hosting a children’s party.

Adding to her frustration was the lack of acknowledgement from her friend since the event. “No thank you for the $100 gift, no thanks for driving an hour with two kids—nothing,” she shared.

The silence left her questioning if she had offended her friend or her family. “I’m starting to wonder if I somehow offended her or her family by simply taking care of my kids. But I really don’t think I did anything wrong,” she wrote.
Since sharing her story, many users have sided with the poster, with one commenting, “Not really a friend is she. She got what she wanted from a present then didn’t bother and not cleaning up is disgusting.”
The woman responded and added a bit more insight into their relationship, “I would 100% agree with you, but it’s honestly shocking because she is a very genuine and nice person, and she herself is not dirty. She looks very well put together. I noticed this behavior from her within the past few parties and she never used to be this way.”
