HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A man from Henry County is facing multiple felony charges after officials said he was beating his dogs with a baseball bat and then bit a deputy during his arrest.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, their Animal Services Division received a report of an animal cruelty incident taking place at a residence on Kimway Drive in Axton.
“Upon investigating, they discovered that the resident at this address had been beating his two dogs with a baseball bat, punching them, and striking one of the dogs with a large rock,” HCSO said.
The sheriff’s office said their deputies went to the residence to check on the condition of the dogs, but the owner came outside as they were assessing the situation.

When deputies told him he was under arrest, HCSO said the man tried to flee, resisting arrest.
“During this struggle, the suspect bit one of the deputies twice and struck another deputy multiple times with his elbow before being taken into custody,” HCSO said.
Officials identified the suspect as 26-year-old Luis Antonio Bacerra-Eames. He was taken to the hospital for the treatment of minor injuries before being released. Now he’s being held in jail without bond and faces these charges:
- Animal Cruelty (felony), 2 counts
- Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (felony), 2 counts
- Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
HCSO said the two dogs are a mixed breed of pit bull. They will be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation and will be housed at the Henry County Animal Shelter.
