HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A man was arrested after allegedly abusing his dogs Friday, May 16, according to Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Division received a complaint about animal cruelty at 131 Kimway Drive in Axton. Deputies say the resident had been beating his two dogs with a baseball bat, punching them, and striking one of them with a large rock.
While deputies were checking on the well-being of the dogs, the owner came outside, and deputies informed him that he was under arrest. Deputies say the man attempted to run and resisted arrest, which led to an altercation between him and deputies. During the altercation, the man bit one of the deputies twice and struck another deputy multiple times with his elbow before being taken into custody, according to deputies.
Luis Antonio Bacerra-Eames, 26, was charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty, two felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, and one misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville for treatment of minor injuries before being taken to the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
The two dogs will be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation and will be housed at the Henry County Animal Shelter.
