“The View” cohosts break down in tears over parenting their dogs: ‘I’d give a limb for either one of them’

Key Points

  • The View cohosts Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin cried over being dog moms.

  • Haines reflected on sharing a photo of her dog, Trixie, sitting with her as she breastfed her son.

  • “I’d give years of my life to extend their life,” Griffin later said as she teared up.

In the aftermath of a particularly heated clash earlier Friday morning, The View cohosts Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin cooled the Hot Topics table later in the episode when they shed a few tears over their love for their pets.

The panelists segued into a discussion about Mother’s Day celebrations for people with pets, which prompted Haines to reflect on the 2018 death of her beloved dog, Trixie.

“I still can get very emotional talking about them,” Haines admitted with tears welling in her eyes, as she discussed a photo she initially posted after the birth of her son, Alec, that showed her breastfeeding while Trixie sat watching on her stomach.

“Only someone who has loved their animal will understand this. I was days home, and I was breastfeeding,” Haines said, pausing to collect herself as she began to cry. “This is what I’m talking about. Trixie was my first baby, and I was trying to let her know that as I was adjusting, she was adjusting, and I wanted her to know that I still loved her, and just because I had this baby, didn’t mean I loved her less.”

Haines said she got intense blowback over the photo, too.

“People were like, ‘What a stretch trying to compare your baby and your dog to having two kids, please.’ I thought, you know what? What does anyone else’s journey and what they call themselves have to do with your journey? Nothing,” Haines said.

Griffin then jumped in to discuss being a dog mom herself.

“Dogs are absolutely part of the family. I think they’re the closest thing to angels on earth. As someone who is dealing with infertility and going through IVF, Mother’s Day is a brutal day. Everybody has a baby and that’s all you see,” she said, also tearing up. “But then I hold these two little angels and I’m like, I have these loving creatures who, on my worst day, think that I am their whole world. Literally, I’d give years of my life to extend their life. I’d give a limb for either one of them, an organ, they’re the best creatures.”

Griffin previously opened up about her IVF journey in December 2024, when she said that her cohosts — including Haines and Sunny Hostin — were helping her through the process.

“We’ll get there and I’ll keep people posted,” Griffin said. “Sara Haines has been just beyond supportive and helpful in this process, and Sunny has, too. She’s had her own journey with this!”

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
