CBMERJ participates in search dog course in Rio Grande do Sul

The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) participated in the 1st Search, Rescue and Salvage Course with Dogs promoted by the Military Fire Department of Rio Grande do Sul (CBMRS).

The performance of the Rio de Janeiro corporation played a prominent role, with the technical contribution of its military personnel and the use of a search dog on its first mission outside the state.

Captain William José Pellerano and Corporal Jean Gonçalves dos Santos, both from the CBMERJ kennel, acted as instructors for the course and taught fundamental subjects for the training of canine technicians.

Features of the training

Among the topics covered were Principles of Urban Search, Search and Rescue in Collapsed Structures, Canine Behavior, Training and Rural Search.

During the training, the search dog Hope, also from the Corporation’s kennel, was used in practical activities, performing training and urban search simulations- his first operational mission outside Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to the military personnel from Rio de Janeiro, the course was attended by firefighters from Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, promoting integration between corporations. Improving the service with rescue dogs plays a vital role in search operations in forests, urban areas and in disaster scenarios.

CBMERJ’s participation was intended to reinforce the institution’s commitment to technical excellence and the appreciation of search dogs as strategic resources in emergency response.

The activity is part of the official calendar of the National Commission for Search, Rescue and Salvage with Dogs (CONABRESC) and the National League of Firefighters (LIGABOM), contributing to professional growth and the training of new handlers capable of working throughout Brazil.
