The first-ever Spring “Handbags for Hospice” was a huge success.
The event, which took place on Thursday, April 24 at the Everest Convention Centre, raised $30,000 to support local families at the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
A group of volunteers, inspired by the popularity and success of the Fall event, organized the Spring fundraiser to try to meet demand, and tickets sold out in just minutes.
“Handbags is always such an enjoyable evening and we are so grateful to the planning committee and the community for their incredible support of Handbags for Hospice. A special thank you to those who sponsored handbags in memory of their loved ones. These funds will be used to provide our Hospice residents and their families with compassionate care and our community with grief and bereavement support at no cost to them,” said Jodi Maroney, Executive Director, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. “Individually and together, the impact of Handbags for Hospice is tremendous.”
The evening included twelve games of Bingo, in which the prize for each round was a designer handbag. There was also a raffle table with 30 prizes donated by community members and local businesses, as well as a Platinum Purse draw for a Kate Spade weekender bag and accessories. All guests also had the opportunity to win a Mystery Bag.
The Fall Handbags for Hospice has been running for six years and has raised over $155,000. The 2025 Fall event will take place on October 16. Follow their Facebook page for more information.
