Here’s everything a dispatcher does to get emergency services to your location when you dial 911.
Two federal officers on business in Elmira were attacked by dogs Tuesday and had to shoot both of them, according to the Elmira Police Department, which was called to assist at the scene.
Around 3:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of West Gray Street to assist officers from the United States Probation and Pretrial Services, Elmira police said.
Arriving officers were advised U.S. probation officers were at a residence conducting a home visit for a female who was currently under their supervision.
While inside the residence, one of the probation officers had been bitten by one dog and attacked by another dog, police learned.
The probation officer suffered multiple puncture wounds to the leg and was transported to a local hospital, and is in reported in stable condition. The other officer on the scene stopped the attack by shooting both dogs. The animals were both killed.
No information was provided regarding the person the probation officers were checking.
The Elmira Police Department was assisted at the scene by City of Elmira Animal Control.
