Lizzie Bodart
The North No. 2 doubles team of Lizzie Bodart and Grace Conner won 6-3, 6-2 over Grace Kaiser and Mallory Banet.
“We knew they were tough, so we knew we were going to have to really try our best and go back to the basics that we know and really go from there,” Conner said. “(Lizzie and I) have really good dynamics together, and we encourage each other to be better. We also knew it was going to be a tight match, and we wanted to be a helping point for our team.”
The Bull Dogs (10-3) also picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles, where Annabelle Sun and Nino Akhayla defeated Lydia Renn and Shelby Blake 6-1, 6-0. Lucy Bergman downed Addy Wilkinson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
“I felt like going in, we had the advantage possibly at doubles, and I didn’t know what to expect out of singles,” North coach Kendal Hammel said. “Lucy played phenomenal. She played one of her best matches. One doubles played great tonight. The energy, the high energy, not making a lot of mistakes, they did a great job. “Overall, I was really pleased with those spots stepping it up and doing what they needed to do.”
Aya Saad lost to Riley Trinkle 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Molly Richards fell to Claire Clemmer-Becht 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
“Aya ran into a buzzsaw. Trinkle is a very good player. She did not make many mistakes,” Hammel said.
North play Terre Haute South for the Conference Indiana title at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with the match being played at Greencastle.
