This week, we’re hitting paws on the usual news quiz to celebrate a different kind of hometown hero — Harvey, a Civil War veteran and one of Cleveland’s bravest good boys. Long before the term “service dog” was even a thing, Harvey was out there helping soldiers. He’s getting his due: On Saturday, May 10, a statue of Harvey will be unveiled at the Cuyahoga County Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument on Public Square.
That got us thinking — how well do Clevelanders know the city’s most famous dogs?
It turns out a certain quiz writer didn’t know much beyond their own childhood couch-loving mutt. So, the newsroom jumped in to help sniff out some fun facts and turn them into a quiz celebrating legendary local pups. From Balto (yes, that Balto) to the Cavaliers’ own Moondog, Cleveland has a proud history of four-legged fame. And because every dog deserves a shot at greatness, we wrapped up with one final question to help you find where you can adopt your next best friend.
So grab a treat, give your own furry friend a pat, and let’s see how well you know the famous dogs of Cleveland.
And, congrats to quiz takers Terrell P., Deb T., Erick G., Joseph R., Phyllis B., Benjamin D., Diane F., Keith G., Russell L., Joe J., Marge C., Ed E., Mary G., Sal N., Shannon V., Kirstin T. and Michael D. for scoring 100% on last week’s quiz.
