Edward Hospital in Naperville is seeking dogs to join its animal-assisted therapy program.
Online applications are available for owners who would like to have their pets considered, a news release said. Dogs that meet the qualifications will be scheduled for temperament testing on Friday, May 23, or Saturday, May 24, at the hospital, 801 S. Washington St.
Mandatory two-day training for the dogs and their handlers selected for the program will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 28-29 at the hospital.
Dogs must be able to follow commands, including sit and stay; walk loosely on a leash without pulling; and perform commands without treats, the release said. They also must not be overly vocal, must like people and should get along well with other dogs.
Those selected also must be at least 1 year old, have lived with their owners for at least six months, and be current on all vaccinations, the release said. Handlers must be at least 18 years old.

Moms ride free Sunday at Fox River Trolley Museum
All mothers ride for free on Mother’s Day when accompanied by a paid admission to the Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin, which opens for the season Sunday, May 11.
Sunday hours at the 365 S. La Fox St. venue are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
New this season is the recently completed addition to the 41-year-old trolley barn, which was built by volunteers, according to spokeswoman Kathleen Jamieson. Track still needs to be put down so the addition connects to the museum’s main rail line, she said.
“The addition allows us to move cars currently in the barn northward and begin some spring cleaning and reorganizing,” Jamieson said.
New concrete included with the addition also allows volunteers to use train jacks to lift up Car 20 to replace its wheels. Built in 1902, this is the oldest operating interurban in the country, Jamieson said.
The museum has about three dozen train or trolley cars in its collection, with some dating back to 1887. For more information, go to foxtrolley.org, email info@foxtrolley.org or call 847-697-4676.
