19 dogs who tested positive for Parvo, showed symptoms, were euthanized at St. Louis County Animal and Control Adoption Center

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Nineteen dogs that tested positive for the Parvovirus (Parvo) and showed clinical symptoms have been euthanized at the St. Louis County Animal and Control Adoption Center.

The center was closed starting on Wednesday after Parvo was detected in five dogs. On Friday, county officials said the center would remain closed until Sunday as the veterinarian team continues working to contain the spread of Parvo.

Friday afternoon, the St. Louis County Department of Public Health said that 19 dogs who tested positive for Parvo and were showing clinical symptoms had been humanely euthanized. The euthanizations were done to prevent the spread of Parvo to the entire facility.

“We never humanely euthanize animals to create more space. This is not an easy job, and we never want to humanely euthanize any animals. We kindly ask our community to treat our staff with compassion and respect as we continue to care for our animals and help them find their forever homes,” read a statement from the St. Louis County Department of Public Health.

Eight dogs that tested positive for Parvo are being closely monitored at the center. No new cases were reported as of Friday.

The St. Louis County Health Department said they have been consulting the University of Florida shelter medicine program, the Association of Shelter Veterinarians Guidelines, and other resources on how to contain this virus. They are also working to get healthy dogs to rescues, and staff members are also temporarily fostering healthy animals.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
