MISSOULA, Mont. — The Missoula Valley Corgis will hold the 2025 Western Montana Corgi Derby this weekend, with 70 dogs expected to participate.
Director Anna Adams stopped by NBC Montana Today on Friday along with last year’s champion, Rue.
“We are not accepting any more registrations,” Adams said. “We are capped at 70, and we are looking forward to having people come out and just watch, eat from a food truck, membership raffles, giveaways.”
Co-director Rachel Kamura said the event is special because the dogs are high energy.
“A lot of people don’t realize how athletic corgis are,” Kamura said.
Rue is a racer who loves her ball.
“The ball is her baby,” Kamura said. “We have to hide it from her and at the finish line someone will pull it out and this girl is ready to race.”
Gates open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Dornblaser Track Facility.
There will be a costume parade. Dogs will race in the following categories: Seniors, Puppies, Mixed, and Adult. The event is child-friendly. Admission is $5 for adults or $10 for a family or group of three.
