SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A delivery of $100,000 worth of hot dogs went out to South Dakotans on Thursday, thanks to Feeding South Dakota and the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation.
The donation of the all-beef hot dogs, or “bull dogs,” was made possible by a partnership with Jorgensen Land & Cattle of Ideal, South Dakota.
“Our donation toward Feeding South Dakota actually helps South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation fund some additional research they’re doing around the health of the carnivore diet. So, it served a really good two-fold purpose in that we were able to use this product to feed families in South Dakota while at the same time, supporting the beef industry through some pretty innovative research,” said Jorgensen Land & Cattle CEO Nick Jorgensen.
An entire semi-truck was filled with 23,000 pounds of hot dogs Thursday morning at the Feeding South Dakota headquarters before departing for delivery.
The 168,000 hot dogs will provide essential protein to families and thousands of individuals facing food insecurity across the state through Feeding South Dakota’s programs.
“Donations of food have been down, and so, we know that we need to get those high-protein items in the boxes. So, now more than ever, this donation is going to make a huge impact to our families,” said Feeding South Dakota CEO Lori Dykstra.
“Having the ability to provide protein to those who need it the most is really how this partnership started with Feeding South Dakota. Farmers and ranchers all over the state have really gravitated toward this project. This donation from Jorgensen Land & Cattle today just exemplifies how giving the people of South Dakota really are,” said South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation President Ryan Eichler.
