10 dogs were seized from a Lancaster residence, and one was dead when police found them living in poor conditions and were physically injured on April 30.
LANCASTER, Pa. — Police are investigating after several dogs, some in injured states, were found living in unsanitary conditions in a Lancaster Township home.
A dog complaint was filed with the Lancaster Township Police on April 30 around 2:45 p.m., police said. The report said there were dogs excessively barking and attacking one another in the yard behind a home on the 1000 block of Sterling Place.
When officers arrived, they saw that the dogs in the backyard were living in unsanitary conditions with open wounds, sores and matted fur.
Additional dogs were also found in the garage in makeshift crates and had injuries.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence, and police, along with the Pennsylvania SPCA Police, started an investigation. The agencies were assisted by the Pennsylvania State Dog Warden.
Investigators found three dogs in the garage, with two being severely injured. The two severely injured dogs were rushed to the Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialities Hospital (P.E.T.S.) in Lancaster for emergency treatment.
The Pa. SPCA Police seized seven dogs from the backyard because they were living in feces, urine, were dirty, injured and in poor physical condition.
The seven dogs in the backyard were transported to a treatment facility for evaluation and treatment.
One dog was found dead in the backyard.
The investigation is ongoing as police wait for pending medical evaluation of the dogs and a necropsy of the dead dog.
