NICEVILLE, Fla. — A 34-year-old man was arrested Monday after two dogs were found dead inside a locked vehicle in Niceville, according to police.
Sampson Matthew Graham of Crestview is charged with two counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty (3rd degree felony) for the incident.
Niceville Police say officers were called to Northwest Florida State College around 1:20 p.m. after receiving a report from a concerned citizen about animals in distress inside a parked car.
“Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and observed one deceased dog and another receiving CPR from other first responders,” police say. “Despite the life saving measures, both animals were declared deceased at the scene.”
According to police, preliminary investigation indicates the dogs had been left inside the vehicle for an extended period with windows closed and no apparent ventilation. Outside temperatures at the time were approximately 85 degrees, while the estimated interior temperature was 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
Graham was located on the Northwest Florida State College campus and placed under arrest.
He’s also facing an unrelated charge of using a communication device to solicit a child.
Graham is being held in Okaloosa County Jail without bond.
