Bull Dogs down Warriors on senior night

The Columbus North boys volleyball team earned the senior night victory Monday night against visiting Warren Central.

The Warriors didn’t make it easy, but the Bull Dogs got the extra rally needed for a 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory.

“It means a lot because senior night is a special day for all the seniors,” North senior Yoki Murabayashi said. “We could have played better in the second set, but we turned it around in the third and fourth sets. It led us to the win, so I’m happy about that.”

After the Bull Dogs (7-14) took command of the first set, they ran into trouble in the second set. They had multiple chances to pull away in the set, but the Warriors rallied with four straight points to lead 22-19 and eventually tied the match.

Warren Central had a 13-8 lead in the second set and led 17-13 until North scored seven of the next eight points to lead 20-18. Following a Warrior point, the Bull Dogs scored four consecutive points to close it out.

Murabayashi finished with 12 digs and three aces for North. Leo Iorio recorded 12 kills and 14 digs. Juan Jose Salcedo Calderon had eight kills and five blocks.

Also for the Bull Dogs, Kota Kondo tallied 26 assists, and Ramu Alagappan had eight assists. Noah Dornfeld pounded five kills, Anyu Gong added four kills and Parth Shah served three aces.

“I’m really proud of them, and it’s amazing most of these seniors haven’t played before this year, so they’re doing a lot of good things for being young players,” North coach Jeff Case said. “I’m really proud of them. It’s been a joy coaching them and looking forward to having a good rest of the season.”

The Bull Dogs travel to take on New Albany Tuesday, and then for the crosstown showdown at Columbus East Friday. Wednesday’s contest at Greenwood has been canceled.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
