A video of a dog found pinned under a couch, along with the trash, shattered people’s hearts.
Two volunteers with Corridor Rescue, JaNell Mitchell and her son Robby, learned through a Houston resident that a dog had been in the trash for about two days in an area known as the “Corridor of Cruelty.” The rescue organization website describes this 14-square-mile area of the city as a place where a “mind-boggling” number of dogs are abandoned, dumped or roam the streets alone.
When the mother and son duo searched the area, they saw a white dog with its head and two front legs stretched out, looking lifeless. The bottom half of the dog’s body stayed pinned underneath a tattered couch on a pile of trash as flies circled him. The dog barked for help.
They began filming to show others the horrific condition the dog was in, which was later shared on another volunteer’s TikTok account, @draxandcompany, on April 2. Once they freed him from underneath the couch, they truly saw what condition he was in: his ribs protruded from his body, and his face looked sunken. The video poster told Newsweek via TikTok that he was “severely emaciated” and weighed only 40 pounds.
While the volunteers are unsure how the dog, who has since been named Jericho, got there, the video poster said that they believe he was “discarded as trash.” He could barely walk.
“He is now in foster care and recovering with a board member of Corridor Rescue,” she said.

The animal rescue is thrilled and thankful they received the tip when they did. They saved him in the nick of time. He’s been on the mend ever since.
“After 10 days in care, he had gained over seven pounds and is slowly learning to walk again,” the volunteer said.
The volunteer who posted the clip shared in the comment section that the rescue is “actively working” to pursue a cruelty investigation, which the video evidence will help in building a case.
The TikTok video became an instant heartbreaker, as viewers flooded the comment section with tears and words of encouragement for the dog.
“Can’t believe this world. I’m so sorry, Buddy,” wrote one person.
Another pointed out: “All those flies on him just waiting for him to decompose. Thank u for saving this baby before it was too late.”
A third user added: “Thank you to the angels who stepped up and saved this precious pup. I can’t imagine how difficult that was! Bless you.”
