GASP! Texas A&M Study Says Your Dog Probably Isn’t Perfect

We all love our dogs here in Texas — whether they’re herding cattle, keeping us company on the porch, or hogging the bed every night. But according to a new study from Texas A&M, there’s a 99% chance your pup has some behavioral quirks… even if you swear they’re the goodest boy or girl on Earth.

The Study

Yep — researchers in Aggieland just shook up the dog world with some eye-opening numbers! After looking at data from more than 43,000 dogs of different breeds, sizes, and backgrounds across the U.S., they found that over 99% of dogs exhibit at least one “moderately serious or serious” behavior issue. That means only 0.88% — less than 1% — of dogs could be considered “perfect” by professional standards.

Now before you clutch your pearls and defend your Labradoodle’s honor, here’s what the study looked at: things like aggression, separation anxiety, fears and phobias, and, let’s just say, indoor accidents.

What are the Main Behavioral Issues?

The most common issues were related to separation and attachment — basically, the emotional breakdown our four-legged friends have when we so much as step into the next room. That includes pacing, whining, following you like a shadow, barking, chewing things, and even trying to escape.

Next up? Aggression. That means growling, snapping, and biting — behaviors that may come out when a dog feels stressed, afraid, or protective.

So if you’ve ever left the house for five minutes and come back to a couch cushion massacre, you’re not alone. Even here in Lubbock, where we raise some of the most loyal and lovable mutts around, the data says most of us are living with dogs who have some sort of behavioral hiccup.

What Should You Do About Poor Pup Behavior?

Experts at Texas A&M say even these so-called “minor” issues shouldn’t be ignored. Working with a vet or behaviorist can help you better understand your dog’s stress levels and emotional needs — especially if they’re struggling with fear, anxiety, or separation.

But let’s be honest — most dog owners in Texas would still argue their pup is the exception. Just wait for the moment when their angelic fur baby flips out at the UPS guy, and you’ll hear that classic line:

“Oh wow, sweet little Princess NEVER does this… I don’t know what’s gotten into her today!”

Sure, Princess. Sure.

Keep lovin’ on your dogs, West Texas. Perfect or not, they’re still our best friends.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
