Adrian Tomine’s “Lucky Dogs”

Adrian Tomine’s “Lucky Dogs”

At least some of us are happy.

Moving around the city this spring, one can’t help but sense that many people seem to have succumbed to a generalized anxiety. For the cover of the April 28, 2025, issue, the cartoonist Adrian Tomine attempted to capture what he observes on his daily early-morning walks in Prospect Park. “I often find myself in the midst of ‘off-leash hours’ near the Picnic House,” Tomine said. “Sometimes the oblivious, unbridled joy of all those dogs is an amazing mood-lifter, and sometimes—especially lately—it fills me with an irrational mix of annoyance and envy.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
