“It was the scariest time of our lives. Those dogs came out of nowhere,” recalled Markeisha Eberhart.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — For Markeisha Eberhart and her four-year-old daughter, Maryssa, it was the scare of their lives.
“It was very traumatic, very terrifying” recalled Eberhart.
Eberhart says last Thursday afternoon, she went outside to pick up her toppled trashcan when her child suddenly screamed.
“Once she hollered dog, I bent down and picked her up. I was trying to stand to let them smell and run away,” said the frightened mom.
However, that didn’t happen.
Her Ring doorbell camera caught on video two dogs attacking her and her little girl.
“Everything happened so fast,” said Eberhart.
She says when she fell, a brown, female pit bull and a white male kept biting her and her preschooler.
“When we fell on the ground, I kept more so trying to keep my daughter tucked under me,” said Eberhart.
A neighbor ran over and grabbed the white dog, while his wife grabbed a scooter to try to scare off the other dog.
“My neighbor had by baby by the arm. She was swinging around and the dog just kept jumping up trying to bite her,” Markeisha recalled.
She and her daughter suffered bite marks before one of the dogs finally ran off. Her neighbor fatally shot the other one.
“I know I have nine stitches on one foot and bite marks on my legs and on my arms. I have seen those two dogs in this neighborhood before. Somebody knows who their owners are I’m sure,” said Eberhart.
Humane Society officials want to remind all dog owners to remember by law, you are required to have your pet on a leash when it’s out in public and keep it secured in your yard.
A grateful Eberhart can’t stop thanking her neighbors who ran to their rescue.
“Oh man, they saved us because when I say I screamed ands screamed and screamed and screamed, they were the only ones who came out to help us. Yes, I believe owners need to be more responsible. Now, I just don’t look at dogs the same and we are moving,” added Markeisha Eberhart.
Eberhart’s neighbor, who grabbed one of the dogs, was also injured.
St. Louis County Animal Control responded to the scene and seized the other dog.
