Design, Dunes, and Dogs: The Many Layers of Jeanmarie Braat

Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker, Jeanmarie Braat

Have you ever met a real estate agent who studied nuclear science? You’re about to! If you don’t know Jeanmarie, it won’t take long once you’ve met her. She is such a gem! I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing her before and jumped at the chance to catch up with her before summer is in full bloom.

Whether walking a waterfront parcel or immersed in complex construction details, she thrives in the challenges that leave others daunted. But beyond her analytical edge lies a heart deeply rooted in community, canine compassion, and cultural curiosity.

How did you get started in real estate?

After two decades in the medical industry, constantly traveling and the corporate world, I longed for a career that kept me closer to home, one where success was directly tied to my efforts. Real estate offered that, and it also aligned perfectly with my interest in the technical elements of architecture and the beauty of design for architecture and design. From quaint cottages to cutting-edge modern builds, the Hamptons are a treasure trove. My technical background makes diving into the construction and design details second nature, especially when it comes to waterfront properties. The more intricate the project, the more I thrive.

What makes the Hamptons so special to you?

It’s no secret—though I wish it were—that the East End is something truly magical. I often find myself pausing to soak in the natural beauty around me. Whether I’m hiking the dunes or discovering hidden beach access points with my three dogs, it never gets old. Beyond the outdoors, the cultural life here rivals any major city—think music, theater, and museums—all wrapped in small-town charm.

What skills have been most important to your success?

My background in nuclear science taught me to think critically and stay three steps ahead. That mindset now serves my clients well, whether they’re buying or selling. I approach each transaction with an analytical focus and a deep dive into the data, helping people make the most informed, strategic decisions about their most valued assets.

What local events are you looking forward to this summer?

I’m all things dog—truly! I’ve fostered more pups than I can count and have three of my own. My favorite event is the Southampton Animal Shelter Gala—it’s part sparkle, part heart, and always a blast (though I risk bringing home “just one more” every year!). I’m also deeply committed to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause I support locally and beyond. And as a tennis nut, you’ll find me on the courts as much as possible, competing on the USTA or a friendly game around town.

How do you stay involved in the community beyond real estate?

I’m currently studying Italian—working my way to B1 Intermediate level—and I hold dual US and Italian citizenship. Eventually, I’d love to help retirees transition to life in Italy. I’m also a NICU cuddler, which is truly the most meaningful time I spend. Supporting critically ill newborns is humbling and grounding—an experience that puts everything else in perspective.

Favorite local hot spot?

Honestly? Home. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be than with my family, friends, and dogs. But when we do go out, Elaia in Bridgehampton is our go-to. The food is spectacular, and it transports you straight to a cozy estiatorio in Greece.

Whether you’re buying, selling, or simply dreaming, Jeanmarie Braat offers the expertise, heart, and vision to help you navigate every step of your Hamptons journey.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
