Blaze Jordan drove in three runs with a pair of doubles in the first two innings, and the Portland Sea Dogs overcame a shaky outing by rehabbing Boston Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito as they earned a 7-5 win Tuesday night against the Hartford Yard Goats in Hartford, Connecticut.
The Sea Dogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Jhostynxon Garcia, an RBI double by Jordan and a two-run double by Corey Rosier.
Then, after Giolito allowed three runs in the bottom half, Jordan doubled home two more runs in the second inning.
Giolito, who missed the 2024 season because of elbow surgery and then injured a hamstring during spring training, struck out the side in the bottom of the second, escaping a bases-loaded jam. He exited after surrendering a leadoff single in the third. He threw 60 pitches, but only 33 for strikes, and gave up five hits and three walks.
Connelly Early was credited with the win after striking out eight in four innings of relief. He gave up two hits and one run, with no walks. Caleb Bolden worked the final two innings for a save, despite allowing a run in the ninth.
