The face of a dog who had been at an animal shelter for nearly two years left viewers heartbroken, but the power of social media pulled through for the canine.
In a March 25 TikTok video posted to the account @lifesavingpixie, a dog named Maror sat frozen in his kennel, staring at the shelter worker, Aileen Betancourt. The adoption specialist explained that this is the face she sees daily as she leaves—looking at her with big, begging eyes to get him out of the animal shelter, as he had been there for 700 days.
His kennel mate, Matzo, tries to console him with sniffs as his lucky day has not come quite yet.
Maror’s lack of adoption interest confused this Texas animal shelter and the 3.9 million viewers who watched the clip. Neutered, potty trained and “incredibly social,” Maror could fit into any family. However, because he is bonded to Matzo, adoption isn’t as easy.
@lifesavingpixie Maror’s adoption fee is waived! He’s already neutered, potty trained, and incredibly social — he gets along with everyone he meets. While he’s available for adoption, we want to mention that he seems somewhat bonded to his kennel mate, Matzo. They came into the shelter together and have been inseparable since. We know how hard it can be to find a home for bonded pairs, so while our hearts ache at the thought of separating them, our biggest hope is for either pup to find a loving home — even if it means they go separately. 🥹❤️ #fyapge#rescue#fyp#dogs#fypageee#doglover
The two have been inseparable ever since coming into the shelter together, and being a package deal sometimes makes it harder for shelters to find these pets forever homes.
The video caption read: “We know how hard it can be to find a home for bonded pairs, so while our hearts ache at the thought of separating them, our biggest hope is for either pup to find a loving home — even if it means they go separately.”
After weeks of searching for the best possible family, the animal shelter found an adopter for Maror and Matzo. They’re finally going home to Canada together.
Yesterday’s follow-up video shared the long-awaited update of Maror and Matzo. The two dogs sprinted out of the shelter when their transportation picked them up. The transporter will drive them to Canada, where they will be united with their forever family.

The shelter employees felt nervous about the drive, especially since it was Matzo’s first time in a car. But they were overall excited for the two besties as they were going home together.
The video’s overlay text reads: “We’re going to miss them so much, but this is the happy ending they’ve been waiting for.”
TikTok viewers flooded the comment section of both videos, expressing their heartbreak and, now, joy for the two dogs.
“I’m ugly crying I’m so happy for those two babies. Thank you for not giving up on them and thank you for the adopter,” said one person.
Another commenter said: “I haven’t stopped thinking about them. I’m excited for an update!”
A third user commented: “This outcome wouldn’t have been possible without your devotion to advocate for them.”
