Immokalee residents see rise in stray dogs; SNIP Collier takes action

Stray dogs are roaming the streets of Immokalee under the hot sun, and the local non-profit SNIP Collier is determined to change that.

Tom Kepp, the founder of SNIP Collier, spoke about the increasing number of stray dogs in the area.

“We’ve brought in probably 50 of them this year, like this, and I probably brought another 25 or 30 in that I’ve gotten, like puppies,” said Kepp.

Every morning, Kepp ventures out with his minivan, equipped with traps, water, and a passion for helping dogs. WINK News had the opportunity to witness his efforts in action on Monday morning.

“They’ve got a routine they do looking for food. And so we just brought the trap in here, and the guy let us in from Handy’s,” said Kepp.

Kepp described the process of capturing the dogs.

“So we just put the trap in here, and as soon as we left, he went through his hole and went in, got the chicken. So we’ll take him, he’ll go to domestic animal services,” he said.

He also encourages the community to get involved in the rescue mission.

“There’s a little dog that has been running loose for two weeks, so I took two traps down there and let the people in the neighborhood use them. We’ll see if we can catch him,” Kepp said.

Kepp emphasizes the importance of neutering pets, a service he offers at a low cost at his clinic.

“We do anywhere from 20 to 30 animals a day, four days a week,” he said.

Kepp shared a recent rescue story.

“Friday, I got a little pregnant dog that probably has either heartworm or heart condition, and I just found her on the side of the road over here,” he said.

Kepp works closely with Gulf Coast Humane Society and Domestic Animal Services and is expanding his clinic to accommodate more animals.

The efforts to rescue and care for stray dogs in Immokalee continue as SNIP Collier works to make a difference in the community.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
