Service dogs have ‘doggone fun’

CARMEL – Putnam Service Dogs Annual ‘Funminster’ Dog Show attracted a plethora of pooches to raise funds for the non-for-profit Putnam Service Dogs — an organization that provides free, highly trained service dogs and services to people with physical disabilities except for blindness.

Founder Nancy Teague explained her agency’s dogs “change the lives of our recipients and their families by adding love, joy, independence and ease. Putnam Service Dogs honors and promotes the nurturing bond between humans and dogs. Our hope is to not only rescue dogs but rescue families and handicapped individuals in a win-win. Our motto is from shelter to service.”

Sunday’s show attracted 42 dogs.

Janet Barnetta, the recipient of one of the dogs, Danny, conducted a demonstration detailing how the pooch assists her daily by retrieving dropped glasses, a cane, napkin, even leaving food untouched on the floor as she walks away.

Barnetta is a petite woman with a 90-pound devoted “son” assisting her. Teague explained “Janet and Danny have been a team for two and one-half years. Janet actually raised Danny while he was placed with another person while she raised a second puppy. That placement didn’t work out and when she needed a service dog, we matched her with Danny.  They take great care of each other.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
