BASEBALL
Former University of Maine pitcher Nick Sinicola combined with three relievers on a five-hitter for the Richmond Flying Squirrels as the Portland Sea Dogs ended the first half of their Eastern League season with a 2-1 loss Sunday at Hadlock Field.
Sinicola went six innings in his fourth start since his promotion to Double-A. He struck out six and gave up one run on six hits and a walk.
Portland got its only run in the fifth inning on a double by Tyler Miller and a single by Tyler McDonough.
BASKETBALL
WNBA: Sabrina Ionescu had 26 points and 11 assists to help the New York Liberty beat the Atlanta Dream, 96-75 in College Park, Georgia.
Jonquel Jones added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Breanna Stewart finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks for the Liberty, who have won 11 of their last 12.
• Jewell Loyd had 16 points, five assists and five rebounds, Skylar Diggins-Smith added 13 points and eight assists, and the Seattle Storm won at home against the Connecticut Sun, 72-61.
• Stefanie Dolson scored 18 points to lead five Washington players in double figures, and the Mystics beat the visiting Dallas Wings, 92-84.
GOLF
DRIVE FOR KIDS: Former pro tennis player Mardy Fish won the Drive Fore Kids celebrity tournament at Falmouth County Club with a two-day score of 49 under the Stableford scoring system.
Former New England Revolution and U.S. national team soccer player Taylor Twellman was second with 44 points.
SOCCER
EURO 2024: Albania player Mirlind Daku was banned for two games after leading fans in nationalist chants that UEFA said brought soccer into disrepute.
Daku took a megaphone after Albania’s 2-2 draw with Croatia on Wednesday and joined in chanting slogans against Serbia and North Macedonia.
The incidents and fallout from the game in Hamburg, Germany, have been the most serious involving Balkan politics at a tournament with the most-ever teams from the region playing.
UEFA ordered the Albanian soccer federation to pay fines totaling 47,250 euros ($50,500) for incidents at the game where its fans chanted an anti-Serb slogan, reportedly “Kill the Serbs.”
• Germany got a stoppage-time goal from substitute Niclas Füllkrug to draw 1-1 with Switzerland in Frankfurt, Germany, clinching first place in its group.
Switzerland, which led most of the game after a 28th-minute goal from Dan Ndoye, also advanced to the knockout rounds by finishing second in the group.
• A dramatic stoppage-time goal from late substitute Kevin Csoboth gave Hungary a 1-0 win over Scotland 1-0 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Hungary now faces an anxious wait to see if its three points will be enough to reach the round of 16 as one of the four best third-place teams.
AUTO RACING
FORMULA ONE: Max Verstappen steered his Red Bull to victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, increasing his lead in the drivers championship.
Verstappen started from second on the grid behind pole-sitter Lando Norris but whipped past the McLaren driver by the first turn. At the same time, George Russell passed both Norris and Verstappen for the lead, but Verstappen overtook Russell on Lap 3 of 66 and never looked back.
Norris finished second, followed by Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in his first podium finish this season.
TENNIS
QUEEN’S CLUB: Tommy Paul beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 7-6 (8) to win the grass-court event in London for his third ATP title.
Paul became the first American winner of the pre-Wimbledon tournament since Sam Querrey in 2010. The 13th-ranked Paul will also overtake compatriot Taylor Fritz to become the highest-ranked U.S. player.
HALLE OPEN: Top-ranked Jannik Sinner won his first title on grass by beating Hubert Hurkacz in Halle, Germany.
The 22-year-old Italian needed two tiebreakers to beat his Polish opponent, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2).
