LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Just days after a woman was reunited with her dog who had been missing for nearly five years, he briefly ran off again, and this time, 7 News was in on the hunt.
Debbie LaFleur’s Yorkie, Kingston, disappeared after Hurricane Laura in 2020. Just last week, he turned up 300 miles from home at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House on the University of Southern Mississippi campus.
The fraternity brothers, who took the dog in and started calling him Benji, checked his microchip and found that he was missing from Lake Charles. They contacted LaFleur, and she and her son, Jared, drove to Hattiesburg Friday to pick up their long-lost pet.
Today Kingston ran off while at Buddy Prejean Park with Debbie and Jared, leading to an hour-long search. KPLC reporter Brendan Brown happened to be there covering their story, and he helped the family track down their runaway pooch.
Brendan and Jared spotted Kingston playing with another dog and ran over, hopping a fence to get to him. The other dog’s owner handed him over to Jaren.
Watch the moment Debbie was reunited with Kingston once again tonight on KPLC.
