A dog’s heartwarming reaction to seeing her owner for the first time in nine days has been captured on a doorbell camera.
Jessica, from Hillsboro, Oregon, enjoyed an emotional reunion with her dog Sissy after a trip away for work. It was a reunion which, unbeknownst to her at the time, was captured on the Ring security camera outside her front door.
The resulting footage was shared with Newsweek by Ring and makes for an uplifting watch with Sissy seen up on her hind legs, seemingly cuddling Jessica, who is crouched down to greet her.

“I was gone for 9 days on a mission trip in Guatemala,” Jessica, who only gave her first name, told Ring. “It was the first time ‘mom’ had been gone for so long.”
Sissy may no longer be a puppy, but it’s clear from the clip that Jessica was sorely missed. “Sissy is a two year old sheepadoodle who loves hugs and being picked up,” she said.
Though dogs can be excitable at the best of times, there is scientific evidence to suggest they miss their human companions when separated for extended periods of time.
In 2011, a study published in the journal Applied Animal Behavior Science detailed an experience involving 12 dogs with no history of separation anxiety.
Researchers closely monitored the dogs to see how they reacted to first being left alone for 30 minutes and then for two hours.
They found that the dogs involved in the experiment greeted their human companions with greater enthusiasm after two hours apart than they did after 30 minutes. The difference suggests absence really does make the heart grow fonder for dogs.
That certainly appears to have been the case for Jessica’s dog. “Sissy was so happy to have mom back home,” she said.
The feeling appears to be mutual though, with Jessica left visibly emotional at seeing her dog for the first time in well over a week. “We were so happy to be reunited,” she said.
So you can only imagine how delighted she was when she discovered the moment had been captured on her Ring camera, allowing her to watch the reunion over and over again, no doubt welling up each time. “I was so happy I got this on video,” she said.
Sissy isn’t the first dog to give viewers the feels with footage of their emotional reunion with a human friend.
Penelope, an Italian greyhound, was captured jumping for joy when her owner walked through the front door after time away. In another instance, a video showing a golden retriever’s reaction to his humans coming home after a month away went viral.
Then there’s Dante, the Dachshund who greets his human pal with the same gusto every day when they return home from work.
