Small Dog Killed by Large Dogs in Rita Ranch, Owner Seeks Justice

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A routine trip to the mailbox turned tragic for Dwight Irwin of Rita Ranch when his small dog, Jack, was attacked and killed by two large dogs.

The incident occurred Thursday and has left those in the area in shock.

Irwin, who described Jack as a small, 12-pound white Havanese, recounted the events leading up to the attack.

“Every day when I go to the mailbox, I take my little dog with me,” Irwin said.

He explained that as they were returning from the mailbox, two large dogs, described as a pit bull mastiff mix, began approaching with their eyes on Jack.

“We went to the mailbox, got the mail and was just starting to head back when I saw those dogs coming across the intersection here and they had their eyes on Jack,” said Irwin.

In the chaos that ensued, Irwin dropped his mail and fell as the dogs attacked Jack.

“I’m laying within four feet of where they were attacking my dog. Killed him, murdered him, carried him across the street and took him down to their house,” Irwin said.

Animal Control and Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) responded to the scene. Police have issued citations to the owner of the attacking dogs, who is set to appear in Tucson City Court. If deemed dangerous, the dogs’ owner will need to adhere to city regulations for dangerous animals, which might include euthanizing the dogs.

Rein Floyd, a neighbor and bystander, expressed sympathy for Irwin.

“I just feel sorry for the guy. I don’t think anyone should have to go through losing a pet, especially in that way,” Floyd said.

Makena Hamre, daughter of a neighbor, shared her shock at witnessing the aftermath.

“I see these two big brown dogs and there’s blood all down their face. And I said oh my God. It was extremely sad,” Bystander Hamre said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
