Tucson man arrested after his dogs kill passerby in attack

A Tucson dog owner faces criminal charges after a 43-year-old man his animals attacked over the weekend died, authorities say.

The attack happened about 6 a.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of West Camino Tierra, south of West Valencia Road, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Deputies found Kevin Renguul “lying in the roadway, suffering from severe injuries across his body,” the release said. The critically injured man was taken to the hospital. He died Wednesday.

Investigators say Renguul was attacked by five dogs that belong to Martin Martinez, 60, that had gotten out of his property.

The dogs had a history of aggressiveness and had previously attacked a neighbor, the release said.

Martinez was initially jailed on suspicion of felony endangerment and felony assault by a vicious animal. A charge of manslaughter was added after Renguul died, the release said.
