Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies, homicide unit detectives and animal control officers from the Pima Animal Care Center are investigating the death of Kevin Renguul, 43, after preliminary investigations revealed he was fatally attacked by multiple dogs.
On March 30 at about 6:10 a.m., Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to the 5000 block of West Camino Tierra, southwest of Tucson, following a report of an unknown problem, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies found Renguul lying in the road with severe injuries all over his body. Life-saving measures were administered until medical personnel arrived and took Renguul to the hospital in critical condition, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that on April 2, while in the hospital, Renguul died from his injuries.
During investigations, it was found that the dogs involved in the attack on Renguul had escaped the care of Martin Martinez, 60, who housed the dogs on his nearby property, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The dogs had a history of aggression and had previously attacked a different neighbor, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Martinez was arrested and charged with felony endangerment and felony assault by a vicious animal. Following Renguul’s death, an additional charge of manslaughter was filed.
An animal control officer from the Pima Animal Care Center took possession of five dogs, the Sheriff’s Department said.
