Colorado man convicted of killing Buckhead resident while kidnapping dogs in 2023, documents say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Colorado man has been convicted of killing a resident at a Buckhead apartment complex during a robbery in 2023.

On March 12, David Kinney was convicted of shooting and killing 22-year-old Jaden McKinnon in August 2023.

On Aug. 13, 2023, officers responded to the Willowest in Lindbergh Apartments in Buckhead around 1:25 p.m. and found McKinnon with a gunshot wound. He died on his way to the hospital, according to police.

An attorney for McKinnon’s family said Kinney stole McKinnon’s French Bulldogs. The dogs were later returned safely.

Five days later, on Aug. 18, FBI agents and Clayton County law enforcement arrested Kinney in connection to McKinnon’s death. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Kinney was convicted of murder and aggravated assault. He was sentenced to life without parole.

McKinnon’s family filed a lawsuit against the property owners, claiming negligence in not fixing the security gates. McKinnon’s attorneys claim the security gates were broken for weeks and no repairs were done until the day after the shooting.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
