COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - 11 News is hearing from a neighbor who lived next to the woman Southern Colorado investigators are charging in the death of an elderly woman after a gruesome dog attack. Jessica Hoff was arrested after her mother, LaVonne, was killed by Hoff’s dogs in March.
The neighbor, Annette Robidoux, said she called animal control on Hoff in 2023 after one of Hoff’s dogs allegedly ran to her home. Robidoux was already suspicious of Hoff then and just how many dogs she saw at her residence.
“I started counting them. She had Chihuahuas, she had corgis. I’m pretty sure she had a basset hound. I know she had puppies,” recounted Annette Robidoux, a neighbor.
Robidoux lived beside Hoff in Colorado City for several years.
“She never let me inside of her house but whenever I would go to say hi or whatever, her dogs would go crazy. I remember her curtains were messed up,” said Robidoux.
Robidoux says that she did call animal control in 2023, which was caught on camera, after one of Hoff’s dogs allegedly ran away.
“The dog looks terrified. I even remember it peed on my robe and I called animal control. They said that if she comes to try to get the dog, I have to give her the dog,” Robidoux said.
During the encounter, Hoff is heard on the doorbell camera saying that she applied for a license to have multiple dogs. 11 News is working to learn if Hoff did apply for any permits. However, at the time of the call in 2023, Annette said that animal control came to her house, but that she is unaware of any actions they took. Robidoux adds that she only saw LaVonne a few times, but was never concerned for her safety.
“I know I didn’t know LaVonne very well, but she was still a sweet soul. She really was. She was a good woman from what I knew,” added Robidoux.
Hoff is the Pueblo County Jail on a $50,000 bond. She has not yet had her first hearing and has not entered a plea. 11 News reached out to Hoff’s lawyer regarding the multiple charges she’s facing. We will let you know when we hear back.
