MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – A local shelter is asking for help after they were forced to turn away dozens of dogs.
Finding “furever” homes to furry friends, 4 Luv of Dog Rescue in Moorhead is always ready to take in any and all dogs in need. There is a limit, however, on how many come through their doors.
In the last two weeks, they said more than 70 dogs were brought to them looking for safety. Erin Buzick, 4 Luv’s Foster Coordinator explained, “All of these dogs that come in to us as requests either come in from our rescue partners, which might be in rural areas, but quite honestly, a large of them are coming from just local people… but a main priority are dogs from the pound.”
Out of the 70, they were able to find spaces for 23 of them.
“We make arrangements to bring them either to our building or to place them in foster care,” said Buzick.
The organization recently took to social media explaining the heart-breaking task of saying no to every single dog in need.

“It certainly is hard for us to consider that we’re not just saying no to the people who we want to say yes to, but we’re also saying no to those dogs, which is our primary mission,” the foster coordinator said.
With limited foster families, a strict building capacity, and budgetary constraints, saying no does happen. Buzick explained those who rent a home or an apartment often run into trouble adhering to property management pet rules.
“They’re either finding out about a policy change or have been given a short amount of time to comply with a policy change, and that’s just always very heart-breaking as well,” she said.
Still, 4 Luv is asking anyone who can to start helping man’s best friend.
“We need foster homes for all kinds of dogs! For little dogs, big dogs, for old dogs, for puppies. Even if you can only do short-term fostering, anything helps,” she added.
Short-term or long-term, they’re looking for more people to say “yes,” so they can less often say, “no.”
