Former “Bachelor” star Sean Lowe revealed that he has re-homed his family’s rescue dog, a boxer named Moose, after a recent attack — the second time he has had to re-home a dog due to aggression.
In a post shared on Instagram, the 41-year-old recounted the dog “ripping into the flesh” of his arm after a fire alarm went off in his home.
“Hopefully, you all are understanding,” he said at the end of the video post, while also noting that he was aware that the dog’s sudden absence on his social media might raise some questions.
Mooses’ unexpected attack is not the first time Lowe has had to re-home a family pet. Read on for more.
Moose — Re-homed in March 2025 after an attack
In a March 17 Instagram post, Lowe described how the boxer became aggressive after a fire alarm was triggered in their home while he was hosting a barbecue with friends.
Lowe’s wife, Catherine Giudici, whom he proposed to on the reality dating show, and their three children — Samuel, 8, Isaiah, 6, and Mia 5 — were not present at the time of the first incident.
According to Lowe, the dog became unexpectedly “triggered” when smoke from the grill set off the house alarm. As Lowe attempted to clear the smoke, Moose nipped at his fingers, then aggressively bit at his shoes.
“He was biting my feet so hard he actually put holes in my shoes, and it was hurting my feet,” Lowe shared. “So at this point, again, there’s so much chaos going on with the alarm going off. I give him a very stern, like, ‘Moose, no, no!’ It was right about that moment where he shows his teeth at me and just attacks me.”
Soon after, the dog tore right into the reality personality’s arm.
“I just see blood squirting, probably a couple feet. And so my first thought is, ‘I think that dog may have nicked an artery,’” Lowe recalled.
After being treated at a local hospital and contacting an animal control officer, Lowe made a plan for what to do with the dog while avoiding sending him to a no-kill shelter.
Some 12 hours later, the dog launched another attack when Lowe and Giudici were preparing their children to leave their home so that he could rest.
“He made a beeline right at me and lunged and started attacking me again and again,” Lowe said.
“Going through a dog attack is pretty darn traumatic. Having to relive it less than 12 hours later, seeing that dog running straight at you, is a feeling that I don’t think I ever want to experience again,” he explained. “Not to mention my arm (was) just useless because it was all stitched up, and I was having a hard time moving it.”
While Lowe didn’t explicitly say that the dog had been re-homed in the video, he did speak of the dog in the past tense and mentioned missing him.
“We’re torn up about it. We really are. We miss our dog, as weird as that sounds. He was a really, really good dog.”
Lowe first introduced his followers to Moose, a “7 year old (we think) rescue boxer,” on Jan. 12. They had the pup for three months before the incident.
Gus — Re-homed in April 2023 after biting son
In 2023, Lowe shared that he re–homed the family’s Bullmastiff, Gus, after the dog bit their son Samuel.
According to Lowe, the dog had already exhibited some aggressive behavior in the past, having snapped at and bitten their daughter Mia, who was then 3.
At the time, Samuel was 6, and the Bullmastiff had bitten him on the side of the head. In a message shared to his Instagram stories at the time, Lowe explained the incident occurred when Samuel attempted to bend down and pet the dog, who proceeded to bite “him on the side of the head.”
“The result was a trip to the E.R. and a staple in the head,” Lowe explained. “So, as much as I love that dog, I have to protect my kids first. But he’s in a great home, and we’ll get to see him occasionally.”
Later, Lowe shared more about his son’s progress, noting that Samuel was “doing great,” the staple had been removed and the wound had fully healed.
“He misses his dog too. And so do his brother and sister,” he added.

He also shared a photo of Gus after finding a “great home.” Lowe revealed at the time that his dog trainer “asked if she could take him as her own personal dog.”
“Now he gets to go to work everyday and be around other dogs,” he wrote at the time.
