A dog found emaciated in Price Hill is getting a new lease on life.A good Samaritan found “French Fry,” as Cincinnati Animal CARE named him, wandering Purcell Avenue on Sunday. Now, shelter workers are nursing him back to health in hopes he’ll be adoption-ready by Thursday. If you couldn’t see the bones protruding through French Fry’s skin, you would think he was a regular, happy dog.”He is definitely very friendly,” said Shelter Community Engagement Manager Lisa Colina. ” I suspect he probably lived in a home. He is not afraid of people. He absolutely loves dogs.”Unfortunately, Lisa says the shelter sees pets in this condition all too often. “He is in a lot better shape than some of the dogs that are emaciated that arrive to us. Oftentimes we get calls for animals that are not able to walk or move.” said Colina. In general, Colina says the shelter is seeing a rise in dog surrenders. “Since last Monday, we have taken in 113 dogs. That is a 7% increase year over year and a 32.5% increase for the month of March year over year,” said Colina. “Obviously prices are going up on a lot of things. That includes dog food and vet care. We have to think that potentially that has something to do with it.”The good news is it’s not too late for French Fry. His treatment plan includes plenty of treats and twice the amount of normal dog food. The shelter says he’s available to fosters now and should be up for adoption by Thursday. “He will make an excellent companion for someone. I think it will be amazing to see his glow up when you know he’s gained his weight, and his skin is back to normal, and he’s being fed a good and steady nutritional diet,” said Colina. For instructions on what to do if you come across a stray pet, click here.
