DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Animal Rescue League of Iowa says it helped remove 49 dogs and puppies from a licensed breeder in Washington County after finding them to be living in unsanitary condition.
Members of the ARL’s rescue team said there were 17 dead dogs, mostly puppies, that were found around the property.
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa worked with PAWS & More animal shelter and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to remove the animals on March 7.
A state-certified veterinarian determined the dogs and puppies that were still alive needed to be removed from the property for their own well-being.

The dogs are now being cared for at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and PAWS & More.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has not released details about any potential charges related to this case. KCRG-TV9 has reached out to the sheriff’s office, but has not heard back.
The case remains under investigation.
