An anonymous tip led to an animal cruelty investigation, ending in the rescue of five dogs in Pitt County.
We spoke to the two Animal Protective Services Officers who led the investigation.
Officers say it started when a video surfaced of a man abusing the 5 dogs, just a couple of days later, they were rescued and taken here to the Pitt County Animal Shelter.
On March 3rd, Pitt County Animal Protective Services got an anonymous tip about a dog owner abusing his dogs. Two days later, Officers Wendy Landry and Brittany Thompson located the dogs, and 29-year-old Hassan Moore was arrested.
Brittany Thompson, APS Officer, had this to say,
They were tethered to a really short leash…and they had feces around their doghouses, so it wasn’t very clean.
Wishbone was one of the 5 dogs rescued after last week’s investigation. Investigators say scars running along her face show evidence of the abuse she suffered.
Wendy Landry, APS Officer, said:
“Officer Thompson received an anonymous tip, along with a video of a person severely abusing a puppy…kicking it, punching it, throwing it around.”
Make sure you do anonymous tips…we definitely appreciate that…I mean that was a huge key factor in what solved this case.
Officer Landry said she’s glad they caught Moore, who is being charged with felony animal cruelty along with other misdemeanors and citations.
She says violence against animals can quickly become a much bigger problem.
If you are abusing an animal, you’re more likely to abuse a person…it leads to a lot of violent crimes, that was one of our concerns with this…if you’re willing to do this to a puppy, what could you do to a person?
