Man, dogs dead after house fire in Campton, fire marshal’s office says

A man is dead after an early morning house fire in a New Hampshire town, authorities said.

The New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office said just after midnight on Saturday, the Campton-Thornton Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on Ellsworth Hill Road in Campton.

When firefighters got there, they saw widespread flames and attempted a search of the home but were forced to get out because of a partial collapse and deteriorating conditions, authorities said.

Firefighters dealt with intense wind gusts, limited water supply and below-freezing temperatures while fighting the fire, the fire marshal’s office said.

Two dogs were also found dead, authorities said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday to verify the man’s identity and confirm cause and manner of death.

The fire marshal’s office and Campton-Thornton Fire Department are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
