
EATON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – Two dogs died in a house fire in Eaton Township Friday night.
According to an Eaton Township Fire Department release, firefighters were alerted to a house fire on Harmony Drive in Easton Estates at around 6:14 p.m.
Firefighters reported seeing a large column of smoke in the area and requested mutual aid.
The first Eaton Township engine on the scene found a “well-advanced” fire in a single-family home. Heavy smoke was visible from multiple windows and doors, according to the release.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
The Columbia Township, Grafton Township, Grafton Village fire department, along with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department and the Lorain County Fire Investigative Unit, assisted at the fire scene.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Eaton Township does not consider it suspicious.
When the fire started, two people were inside the home but evacuated safely after hearing the smoke alarms.
One person was assessed on the scene but was not taken to the hospital.
Firefighters located two dogs, but they did not survive.
