20 Dogs Rescued from Hoarders, Taken to Tricounty Animal Rescue in Boca Raton

There are 20 new faces at Tricounty Animal Rescue in Boca Raton, and they’re struggling with parasites, heart worm, skin infections—and they’re scared.

“They’re all scared, that’s our biggest thing,” says shelter manager Amanda Zimmer. “None of these dogs have had hardly any human contact, if at all.”

The rescue took in the dogs from a hoarding situation in Arkansas last week, and they’re undergoing treatment and preparing for adoption. For the dogs with heart worm, it will require six months of antibiotics. There are also 12 puppies and a dog who is pregnant.

All the dogs were a part of two separate hoarding situations in Arkansas, which yielded 80 dogs being removed from the homes. Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), which has worked with Tricounty for a decade, facilitated the rescue but was not equipped to handle all of their medical care. Tricounty offered to take 20; ARC drove the dogs 10 hours to Ocala, and Tricounty completed their journey to Boca Raton. Since the rescue has a maternity ward, they offered to take the moms.

The dogs have been in quarantine ever since, and are undergoing treatment for their illnesses. But volunteers will be needed to help the dogs socialize—with plenty of treats. The pack is a range of ages and sizes, from a 4-pound chihuahua to two 65-pound Pyrenees mixes.

Tricounty is in need of donations—intake alone has been $7,500, and the dogs will need to be spayed and neutered and also receive medicine. They’re also in need of supplies, such as bleach, cleaning supplies, mop heads, dog treats and blankets (old towels are a great donation for animals). For those who want to give their time, volunteers are always welcome to socialize with the dogs and take them on walks. Volunteers who interact with the animals must be 16 or older.

“We’re just really happy that we can help in situations like this, that our doors are open to animals in need no matter where they’re located,” Zimmer says. “But we need the public to help. We can’t do it without the public’s help.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
