KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A week ago, KC Pet Project waived adoption fees for all dogs, citing an unprecedented overcrowding crisis.
In five days, nearly 300 dogs housed at the shelter found their forever homes.
KC Pet Project staff had said they would be forced to make heartbreaking decisions if they weren’t able to find new families for several of the dogs.
In five days, the shelter experienced “the most incredible, record-breaking adoption event in KC Pet Project history” with 294 dogs being adopted.

KC Pet Project also revealed that in those same five days, shelter staff also took in more than 100 dogs who needed our help.
“This is the never-ending cycle of animal sheltering, and we remain committed to serving Kansas City’s pets and people every single day,” the shelter stated in a Facebook post. “From the bottom of our hearts—thank you, Kansas City! Let’s keep this momentum going. Keep adopting, fostering, donating, and supporting, because together, we are saving lives.
