WALKER COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities say they made a shocking discovery Chickamauga faces over the weekend—26 dead roosters scattered across a yard.
But that wasn’t all. Deputies also rescued several dogs living in terrible conditions.
This happened Saturday at a home on Garrets Chapel Road, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson, when a deputy investigated a vehicle blocking a driveway.
That led to the discovery of 26 dead roosters “strewn about the yard,” according to Sheriff Wilson…
“Other evidence found at the residence such as, leg tags, gaffs, spurs and medication for wound care led the reporting deputy to suspect the roosters had died while engaged in cock fighting.”
Deputies also found a dog with a broken leg, and four other dogs who were penned up without food, water or adequate shelter.
Authorities have now charged 49-year-old Daniel Keith Bradley with 26 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals for the roosters, one count of aggravated cruelty to animals for the dog with the broken leg, and 4 counts of cruelty to animals for the 4 penned dogs.
This case remains under investigation as officials work to determine whether Bradley was involved in organized cockfighting.
Meanwhile, the surviving animals have been taken in by local animal control.
Sheriff Wilson says Bradley will have the opportunity to reclaim them under certain conditions—if he fails to meet those conditions, the dogs will be put up for adoption.
