LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – If you’ve ever had a puppy in your home, you likely know how difficult it is to do anything without them close behind your heels. So the last place you’d likely find a whole litter of them is a yoga class, but that was the case on Sunday at the Off Leash Dog Bar.
Most yoga sessions don’t take the downward dog quite as literally as it was at the backroom of the bar. As patrons hit poses while a dozen small helpers crawled in-between arms and legs and even chewed on a few ponytails.
For many, there were many more petting breaks than water breaks. Instructor Vanessa Wurtz admitted that the extra paws in the room didn’t help any with people’s yoga abilities, but the positive energy they bring is the perfect change of pace for both newcomers and veterans.
“It’s fun, it’s playful, it makes things feel a little bit more accessible to people that might have shied away from yoga because they’re new and don’t have much experience,” Wurtz said. “Maybe a studio feels too intimidating, and they can just come here knowing it’s for a great cause and it’s playful.”
The event raised money for local shelter Big Red Rescue through tickets and donations. The shelter provided the puppies. The litter came from Texas, and they were taken in when their mother was at risk of being euthanized while still carrying them.
Those with the Big Red Rescue said that they’re always full and looking for people to adopt.
