A charitable appeal in memory of Grace Millane taking place at The Palms Shopping Centre, collecting handbags filled with essential items for women in need.
The Love Grace Appeal, founded by Grace’s family, will run until Saturday 8 March 2025, in partnership with Women’s Refuge.
The initiative was created to honour Grace’s love for handbags while leaving a lasting legacy in the fight against violence against women.
Her family launched the appeal following her tragic death in 2018, aiming to provide practical support to women escaping dangerous situations.
Shoppers are encouraged to donate a handbag, filling it with useful items before dropping it off at The Palms Customer Service Desk.
The bags will then be distributed to women through Women’s Refuge, offering them a small source of comfort as they rebuild their lives.
The Palms Shopping Centre spokeswoman said they’ve had nearly a hundred handbags dropped off already.

How it works
Participants can donate a new or pre-loved handbag filled with both essential and luxury items. Suggested donations include:
•Basics: Toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant.
•Extras: Wipes, tissues, moisturiser, plasters, soap, hand gel, lip balm, face cloths, torch, hairbrush, sanitary products.
•Luxury items: Makeup, perfume, hair accessories, gloves, scarf, notebook, pen, playing cards, purse, sunglasses, jewellery.

However, some items must not be included, such as sharp objects, razors, painkillers, alcohol, money, food, contraceptives, or damaged/opened products.
Since its inception, the Love Grace Appeal has gained international support, with handbag donations collected across the UK, New Zealand.
The initiative not only provides much-needed essentials but also serves as a symbol of solidarity and hope for women who have experienced violence.
