Dyson has spent his entire life in the shelter. He’s grown up at Humane Society of North Texas, and while the staff members there love him very much, what he really needs is a home of his own.

Dyson and his siblings were found as strays and brought to the shelter when they were 4 months old. At first, he seemed like a typical puppy, but his rescuers soon discovered he was born with a rare genetic defect that was causing severe issues in both of his back legs. He ended up needing major surgery, and even then he still struggled to walk normally.

“Dyson has been through it all — pain, surgeries, setbacks,” Cassie Davidson, senior director of marketing, communications and public relations at Humane Society of North Texas, told The Dodo. “At one point, we even thought he might lose a leg, or both!”

All of Dyson’s siblings were adopted quickly, while he was left behind, still waiting for someone to notice him. His friends at the shelter continued to be his fiercest advocates, and thanks to a generous donation from St. Francis Veterinary Clinic, he recently got his very own wheelchair to help him get around better.
With his new set of wheels, Dyson is unstoppable. All that’s left now is to find him a family.

“Dyson doesn’t know he’s different,” Davidson said. “He doesn’t feel sorry for himself. He just wants what every dog wants: a home, a best friend, someone to love him unconditionally.”
With the help of one of his favorite shelter volunteers, Dyson has been learning to master his new set of wheels. He can’t wait to show off his new skills to his forever family once they find him, which hopefully will be very, very soon.
“Just maybe, Dyson’s family is closer than we think,” Davidson said.
